Urge Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton to Ban Ostrich and Other Exotic Skins!

UN LAB Middleware Label: Title Ends

PETA has sent Gucci, Prada, and LVMH—the parent company of Louis Vuitton—investigative video footage exposing the horrific cruelty involved in the exotic-skins trade, yet the companies remain unmoved. Please speak up for ostriches, crocodiles, snakes, and other animals who suffer greatly to make expensive bags, belts, shoes, and other products.

PETA investigators went inside the world's largest ostrich-slaughter companies, which supply Prada and Louis Vuitton. They filmed workers striking young birds in the face and laughing as one stumbled over a collapsed flockmate. One worker laughs as he describes how the birds trust the workers and walk willingly into the slaughter facility with them. At the slaughterhouse, ostriches watched helplessly as the birds before them were forced into stun boxes and their throats were slit.

A PETA video exposé of crocodile farms in Vietnam showed that workers cut into the necks of crocodiles and rammed metal rods down their spines. One farm, which has supplied skins to LVMH, held tens of thousands of crocodiles in small, concrete enclosures—some shorter than the length of their bodies. The investigator was told that the animals are kept there for over a year.

In the exotic-skins trade, lizards are cut open while still alive and snakes are decapitated, nailed to trees, or killed in other cruel ways. Their mutilated bodies are tossed aside, and because of the animals' slow metabolism, they can suffer for days before succumbing to shock or dehydration.

All animals—whether they have feathers, scales, or fur—deserve respect and equal consideration. Ostriches, crocodiles, and other animals just want to be left alone to roam freely, care for their young, and live as they please. Please send polite emails to Michael Burke at [email protected] and Marco Bizzarri at [email protected]. Then, use the form below to urge Prada to ban exotic skins without delay.
