At Mississippi Aquarium, Axl, Finn, Nigel, and Archer are imprisoned in tiny concrete tanks and forced to perform demeaning tricks for public entertainment. By partnering with the shady aquarium, Coastal Mississippi, Keesler Federal Credit Union, and the Mississippi Tourism Association are helping prop up a facility that holds highly intelligent dolphins captive despite growing public opposition.

Dolphins are emotionally complex animals who form close social bonds, communicate in unique ways, and can travel up to 60 miles each day in the ocean. Yet at Mississippi Aquarium, they’re deprived of nearly every aspect of their natural lives. No concrete enclosure can ever meet their physical, social, or psychological needs, and experts have documented a range of welfare concerns associated with confinement, including stress, disease, health problems, and abnormal behaviors.
Nearly every major online travel company—including Airbnb, Booking.com, and Expedia—prohibits ticket sales to venues that offer dolphin interactions or performances. An overwhelming 92% of Americans say dolphins belong in the ocean, not in tanks, and 80% support releasing captive dolphins from marine parks and resorts when possible or sending them to seaside sanctuaries.
