Down is a product of cruelty, and by continuing to sell it, RH may as well be holding the knives used to slash birds’ throats before their down is stolen from them.
All down and feathers come from ducks and geese who are eventually killed in a violent, painful way. They’re often picked up by their necks, wings, or feet and stuffed into crates for a grueling journey through all weather extremes to the slaughterhouse. There, many of them are inadequately stunned before their throats are cut, so they’re still conscious when they’re dumped into defeathering tanks full of scalding-hot water.
Even after PETA confronted RH (formerly Restoration Hardware) executives at their annual shareholder meeting with investigative footage revealing this horrific abuse, RH continues to sell down and feather-filled bedding, furniture, and decor. This is despite describing its own down alternative as the “lightest, loftiest and most natural-feeling” material of its kind and even though it’s hypoallergenic and easy to care for, unlike down.
Please encourage RH to stop supporting the filth, suffering, and horrific violence that are inherent to the down industry by banning down.
