Food Companies Kill Animals in Taiwanese Labs for Health Marketing Claims

First, the good news!

After discussions with PETA, Standard Foods Group—the largest Taiwanese health food company and a PepsiCo Quaker Oats licensee—became Taiwan's first major food and beverage company to ban tests on animals not required by law for marketing health claims.

Now we need your help. Other major companies in Taiwan continue to force-feed, electroshock, drown, starve, bleed, poison, dissect, and kill animals—more than 8,000 individuals over two decades—all to sell products. None of these tests were required by law.

Among one of the experiments that PETA swayed the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to stop accepting, companies would feed mice herbal blends and chicken essence, starve them for up to 24 hours, then drop them into beakers of water to watch them struggle until they drown. If the mice would float to conserve energy, experimenters would stir the water. They would even tie lead wires to the mice to make swimming harder. No animal consented to any of this.

Companies that conduct experiments on animals are on the wrong side of history. PETA's scientific comments and thousands of supporters' pleas have already moved Taiwan's FDA to revise numerous regulations to no longer accept the torture of animals in laboratories for food and beverage companies there to make health claims for marketing to consumers. PETA is leading a global trend—persuading dozens of companies to end experiments on animals.
