Consumers everywhere need to know the truth about mohair.
Goats are intelligent, sensitive animals who can recognize their friends, form complex social structures and family bonds, and rival dogs in their ability to read human emotions. Like rabbits, goats will “binky” around when they’re happy and excited. But those exploited by the mohair industry are forced to endure immense cruelty during their short lives.
Most of the world’s mohair originates in South Africa, where PETA Asia conducted the first-ever eyewitness investigation that exposed systemic abuse of goats in the mohair industry. They endured a violent and bloody shearing process, during which workers dragged them by their legs, threw them across the floor, and deliberately mutilated them. A worker slit the throats of unwanted goats while they were still conscious and able to feel pain and terror.
No sweater, scarf, blanket, or any other item made from mohair is worth goats’ suffering. By signing the pledge below and encouraging your friends and family to do so as well, you’ll be sparing the lives of countless goats while sending a powerful message not only to the mohair industry but also to designers, retailers, and others who directly profit from the suffering caused by this cruel industry.
