For over 50 years, the Iditarod dog-sled race has been forcing dogs to run past their breaking points and even to their deaths. A pregnant dog named Ventana collapsed and died in the 2025 race, and three dogs—Henry, George, and Bog—died in the 2024 race alone. While nearly every major company has ended its partnership with the deadly event, energy provider Harvest Midstream and its affiliate Hilcorp Alaska continue to sponsor this cruelty.

The Iditarod forces dogs to run approximately 100 miles a day for up to two weeks in blistering cold weather through unforgiving Alaskan terrain. Many dogs incur stomach ulcers and stress fractures, are afflicted with dehydration or diarrhea, or even die from aspiration pneumonia during the grueling race, and many are left with lung damage.

Major sponsors such as ExxonMobil, Alaska Airlines, Chrysler, and Coca-Cola have already pulled their support, and it’s time for Harvest Midstream and Hilcorp Alaska to to reevaluate their future support to help end the Iditarod’s death toll.
Please take a moment to urge Harvest Midstream and Hilcorp Alaska to reconsider their support of the Iditarod. Remember to be polite.
