In small, bleak pens at Lagoon Amusement Park in Utah, numerous wild animals endure a screeching steam train kiddie ride and the surrounding screaming crowds on roller coasters. Some of the wild animals include a camel with drooping humps, which can be a sign of weight loss or dehydration; a South American coati, who is nocturnal but stuck in a tiny cage next to the train blaring throughout the day; and kangaroos, whose natural bushland habitat has been replaced by a patch of artificial turf and concrete.

Lagoon Amusement Park treats animals like some sideshow amusement, a blatant example of speciesism—a human-supremacist worldview.

Over the years, Lagoon has received various citations for violating the federal Animal Welfare Act, including repeated ones for inadequate veterinary care, filthy enclosures, and inadequately trained staff. Considering these problems, it’s not surprising that a federal inspector previously described the abusement park as having a high animal death rate. But there’s still hope: according to public records, in December 2024, Lagoon finally sent this lion and five other suffering big cats to a reputable sanctuary.
Please urge Lagoon Amusement Park to end its Wild Kingdom train ride and transfer the remaining animals to reputable facilities.
