How Does PETA’s Investigations & Rescue Fund Help Save Animals?

PETA’s undercover investigations are one of the most important parts of our work. We rely on them to uncover horrific cruelty, and then we use the footage and information we find to expose—and ultimately stop—the abuse.

These investigations can be lifesaving. In late 2021, we released a groundbreaking exposé of Envigo, a dog-breeding facility in Virginia where thousands of beagles endured abusive, prison-like conditions. Months after the findings of our investigation were released, that hellhole shut down and nearly 4,000 beagles—all bred for experimentation or kept to produce more puppies for sale to laboratories—were released for adoption. We know that we can stop this kind of misery—but the first step in doing so is to expose it!

Over the course of the investigation, PETA found more than 360 puppies dead in cages with their mothers and littermates.

Months after PETA’s groundbreaking exposé, Envigo’s dog-breeding hellhole shut down and all the surviving beagles were released for adoption.
