Update (June 24, 2026): Thanks to our members and supporters, the Senate Agriculture Committee has left the "Save Our Bacon Act" language out of the current Farm Bill draft—but this isn't final yet. Please urge your senators to oppose the Save Our Bacon Act—so ducks and geese are protected from force-feeding and mother pigs are spared from being trapped in small crates—and to block the fur industry from using tax dollars to promote its cruel, unnecessary products.
Original post:
Federal lawmakers are considering updates to the Farm Bill, and industries that profit off animals' bodies are fighting to gut statewide animal rights laws. This provision is called the "Save Our Bacon Act" and it would strip states of their power to pass or uphold laws defending animals—including bans on foie gras sales in California and New York City and bans on gestation crates that trap mother pigs in spaces barely larger than their own bodies. The current laws aren't even the bare minimum; animals are deeply suffering in farms across America. Animals raised and killed for food could be subjected to even more terror and cruelty, just to save producers money.

These animals are individuals. They have families they love and protect. Ducks and geese used for foie gras experience love, pain, joy, and fear—just like the dogs and cats who share our homes. To confine and force-feed them is to steal their bodily autonomy and deny them their right to live on their own terms. Countless animals have been spared because cities and states enacted rights far stronger than federal ones. We can't let these industries undo that progress.

Please urge your federal lawmakers to defend animals' rights by opposing the Save Our Bacon Act and blocking the fur industry's grab for your tax dollars to advertise its cruel, unnecessary products.
