At tourist attractions that force elephants to give rides, sensitive elephants endure physical and psychological abuse and have had their spirits broken to make them compliant. Carnival Corporation is profiting from this cruelty by selling experiences to facilities that offer elephant rides through its subsidiaries Carnival Cruise Line, Holland America, and Princess Cruises.

To train baby elephants to be subservient in the tourism industry, they’re often torn from their mothers, tied down and immobilized with ropes, and beaten mercilessly, sometimes for days on end. Then, they’re forced to spend the rest of their lives lugging tourists around—sometimes for hours on end or even when they’re exhausted or injured. They’re routinely denied nutritious food, adequate water, and needed veterinary care and often spend long hours chained.
Carnival is one of the last major U.S. travel companies to sell cruel elephant rides. More than 50 major companies, including Royal Caribbean, Airbnb, Expedia, Tripadvisor, and Booking.com, have all taken a stand and stopped selling them. Please use the form below to urge Carnival Corporation to stop selling excursions to facilities that exploit elephants for rides.
