Live Animals Chased, Crushed, and Killed at Calkiní, Campeche Festival

UN LAB Middleware Label: Title Ends

A shocking incident in Calkiní, Campeche, made national headlines: During a local festivity, children were encouraged to hit piñatas filled with live animals—including iguanas, frogs, and birds. The terrified animals were chased, kicked, and crushed. Officials are now investigating, but this cruelty was reportedly approved by the mayor.

Please urge Mayor Milton Millán Atoche to publicly condemn the abuse, hold the organizers accountable, and ensure such acts are never repeated.

No “tradition” should involve violence against animals.
