Urge CU Boulder to Stop Exploiting Bison As Live Mascots

UN LAB Middleware Label: Title Ends

CU Boulder forces bison to run across the field in a chaotic stadium, even though bison feel fear, pain, and joy just like us and would never choose to do this on their own. The sixth bison used as CU’s live mascot, Ralphie VI, apparently made her distaste for running on a football field clear enough that the school allowed her to “retire” after about three years, but Ralphies before her were used for up to 11 years. Like Ralphie VI, all of these bison would have preferred to remain free.

In their natural habitat, bison are free-roaming social animals who thrive in vast, open spaces in herds with other members of their species. They’ll never thrive in a stadium where they’re made to sprint for screaming sports fans. There’s absolutely no reason to subject animals to the stress of these environments, and willing human mascots can do a much better job of pumping up the team and the fans.

Use the form below to tell CU Boulder’s Chancellor to end the live mascot program and leave all bison in peace.
