URGENT: Support the MINKS are Superspreaders Act

UN LAB Middleware Label: Title Ends

Every day that mink fur factory farms remain legal in the United States, thousands of intelligent, curious animals are trapped in cramped, filthy conditions that deny them even the most basic elements of a natural life. Congress has the chance to end this cruelty permanently through H.R. 6513, the MINKS are Superspreaders Act—and your voice is essential.

This legislation would amend the Animal Welfare Act to make it illegal to breed, possess, sell, buy, or transport mink raised in captivity for fur production. Once passed, the bill would end mink fur farming in the United States and establish a voluntary federal buy-out program to get the few dozen remaining mink fur factory farms out of the trade.

Minks are not commodities. They are solitary, semi-aquatic animals who roam, explore, and build complex lives in nature. On fur factory farms, all of that is taken from them. They spend their entire lives in small wire cages where they cannot run, swim, or escape the relentless stress that drives many to self-mutilate. After a life of misery, minks are gassed to death or their necks are broken before the skin is peeled off their bodies.

Mink farms don’t just cause immense suffering—they also pose a serious public health risk. They were proven hotspots for COVID-19 outbreaks, where the virus spread rapidly, mutated, and even jumped back to humans. Scientists continue to warn that these facilities remain a dangerous breeding ground for the next global pandemic.

Please, use the form below to tell your U.S. representative that it’s time for a nationwide ban on mink fur farming.
