Animals are being dismembered and decapitated in dozens of deadly experiments conducted by Hong Kong Technology Venture Company Limited (HKTV), the parent company of HKTVmall, one of Hong Kong’s most popular online shopping platforms.
The company has severed the heads and limbs of pigs and sheep in 38 experiments since 2022, purportedly in hopes of developing technology that can keep animal organs viable for transplantation. The company says severed animal limbs remain viable for up to 46 hours, while decapitated heads survive for around seven hours—claims experimenters call a “world’s first.”

HKTV says these experiments, one day, could apply to organ transplantation or extending the human lifespan. Yet the company’s own board of directors admits the experiments are purely exploratory, highly speculative, and offer “no assurance” of future benefits—despite plans to continue investing tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars each year into them.
HKTV claims it provided the animals with pain relief in compliance with ethics regulations. But the local Department of Health confirmed that the tests were not conducted in Hong Kong, raising serious questions about transparency, ethics, and oversight.

Public outrage over the invasive experiments has erupted in Hong Kong. Calls to boycott HKTV have surged, with many uninstalling the company’s app. At least one supplier of companion animal health products has removed its products from HKTVmall.
