These 6 Dolphins Should Be In A Sanctuary—Tell The National Aquarium to Act!

UN LAB Middleware Label: Title Ends

Following decades of protests over dolphin captivity, the National Aquarium in Baltimore pledged in 2016 to move the dolphins in its tanks to a seaside sanctuary by the end of 2020. The dolphins were promised the opportunity to feel the ocean currents, dive deep, and express their natural behaviors. More than 10 years have passed, and no sanctuary has been built, and no progress has been made. The dolphins are still waiting, swimming in endless circles in tanks.

When it announced the move, the National Aquarium itself acknowledged that dolphins “thrive when they can form social groups, have opportunities to express natural behaviors and live in a habitat as similar as possible to that for which nature so superbly designed them.” A seaside sanctuary is what Chesapeake, Jade, Spirit, Beau, Foster, and Bayley deserve.

Dolphin captivity has been banned in Canada, France, and Mexico, and the Miami Seaquarium shut down. There’s no excuse for delays. Please join PETA in urging the National Aquarium to keep its promise and move swiftly to send the dolphins to a seaside sanctuary.
