PETA supporters sprang into action, making sure that animals—from cicadas to cows—are never forgotten. Don’t miss these highlights from PETA’s protests. To everyone who participated in one of our head-turning protests—thank you! If you have yet to join us, we hope to see you soon. Check out the highlights from some of our recent actions below:

Celebrity Chef Babette Davis Glued Her Hand to a Starbucks Counter
On International Women’s Day (March 8), a group of PETA supporters, joined by legendary celebrity vegan chef and 74-year-old grandmother Chef Babette Davis, descended on a busy Starbucks in Inglewood, California, near her restaurant Stuff I Eat. Davis spoke as a woman of color, a mother, an animal and community advocate, and an environmentalist to demand that the company stop charging extra for vegan milks and superglued her hand to the counter in front of the registers. The protest was seen live by hundreds of thousands of people on multiple social media platforms. Check it out!

PETA’s Massive ‘Spider’ Urges NIMH to Untangle Itself From Bad Science
As the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) held its second symposium for its 75th anniversary celebration, an enormous “spider” took over the steps of the National Archives Museum along with more than two dozen PETA supporters. Our rubber spider didn’t hurt anyone. By contrast, NIMH experimenter Elisabeth Murray has been tormenting monkeys with rubber spiders and snakes for decades—and NIMH has funded this abuse with over $50 million of our taxpayer money. It’s past time for NIMH to stop funding the torment of monkeys while patients suffer, and we’ll continue to protest until these unethical experiments end.

EVMS Kills 4 Mother Baboons After PETA Exposes Federal Animal Welfare Violations
More than 40 PETA supporters protested outside Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) in Norfolk, Virginia, to demand that the school’s experimenter Gerald Pepe be dismissed and that his cruel tests on mother baboons and their babies be ended. Our protesters stretched down the entire length of the street, chanting and holding signs with photos revealing the baboons trapped in this prison-like laboratory. We honored Jemma, Cookie, Toya, and Tara, four baboons who were killed by Pepe, even though PETA had offered to move them to an accredited sanctuary. The protest was covered by WTRK, Yahoo! News, and ABC Channel 13 News Now. We’ll continue to expose EVMS until this lab is shut down!

The World Is Burning—Go Vegan!
Ahead of Earth Day (April 22), PETA set a beautiful globe on fire in front of Amarillo City Hall to remind everyone that the climate catastrophe is fueled by animal agriculture—and to call on people to fight back by going vegan. Hundreds of vehicles passed by on the busy road, and a few responded with friendly honks. We received news coverage from OneGreenPlanet and the local ABC station. We hope this demo inspired people to go vegan for Earth Day and every day!

Giant ‘Cicadas’ Feast on ‘Human Flesh’ Outside Bug-Killing Insectarium
After learning that the Audubon Insectarium in New Orleans was planning to serve cicadas to its patrons, PETA buzzed over to turn the tables, as two “cicadas” feasted on a human to get spectators to think about how they would feel if they were the ones being eaten. Passersby told us it was a very effective display, and we handed out lots of vegan starter kits while reminding people that insects deserve respect, too. The New Orleans Advocate published a story before the demo, and the local CBS station put out this story. Then our “cicadas” went international with this article from the Daily Mail.

Stop Glorifying Tortured Breeds!
Chaos erupted at the Westminster Dog Show as dog defenders stormed the “Best in Show” competition, urging people to boycott breeders. Just moments before the crowning of the winning pooch, Sage, two activists charged the field, brandishing signs that read, “Boycott Breeders” and “End Torture Breeding.” Three supporters were swiftly tackled by security, handcuffed, and escorted off the premises to spend the night in jail. Our action was mentioned in seemingly every article and broadcast story about the show, including by the Associated Press, The Washington Post, Time magazine, EPA Images, Fox News, ESPN, and MSN.

PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ Pig Truck Honks for Compassion
PETA’s “Hell on Wheels” pig truck made its official debut at the Dewig Meats Ribfest in Vincennes, Indiana. Attendees, sponsors, and media outlets on site covering the event were all interested in our message—we even got some coverage from the local Vincennes Sun-Commercial. With our speakers amped up, customers had to endure the cries and screams of pigs while waiting for their orders—a harrowing reminder that these sensitive individuals suffer horrifically when the meat industry raises and kills them for their flesh.

Whole Foods Has Blood on Its Cans!
During Amazon’s virtual annual meeting, PETA supporters caused a ruckus outside Whole Foods’ flagship store in Austin, Texas, when three chained “monkeys,” alongside a crowd of other activists, blocked the driveway entrance with two “Cruel Foods” coconut milk cans as they blasted monkey screams and chanted, “Whole Foods, stop supporting monkey abuse.” We caused a traffic jam of incoming customers and remained until police blared their car sirens and threatened to arrest the activists. We caught the attention of everyone nearby, and FOX Austin was on site to capture all the excitement. The segment was also run on FOX Dallas, AOL, and Fox & Friends.

Harvard President Glitter-Bombed
Harvard University Interim President Alan Garber was doused with a glitter bomb released by a PETA activist during his opening remarks at an annual Harvard Alumni Day event. The activist shouted, “For the baby monkeys!” and was escorted off the stage and arrested while chanting and holding a sign that read, “Harvard President Garber: End Baby Monkey Tests!” The bold action was covered by The Harvard Crimson, Breitbart, ABC Boston, Daily Kos, PR Week, and others.
