Dear Cid Marcos, As rescuers near an abandoned property in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, an unsettling stillness fills the air. They arrive under the cover of clouds and get to work quickly, trying to evade detection by drones from nearby frontlines. A gentle horse approaches, while several dogs and sheep watch timidly, hoping someone is here to help. Around them lies the wreckage of a destroyed home, empty food bowls, troughs of dirty water, and the bodies of animals who were killed in a previous drone attack. As the team loads animals into trailers to whisk them to safety, a boom suddenly shakes the ground—the barn has been hit. Every day, PETA-supported teams are putting everything on the line to rescue animals in Ukraine, and they urgently need your help.
