For a dog like Deebo, one bitterly cold night may be their last.

Just days ago, PETA fieldworkers found Deebo chained up outside in dangerously frigid temperatures. A filthy blanket and thin layer of straw offered no protection from the icy winds that left his body trembling and his paws numb. Without our urgent help, many dogs like Deebo will endure the harsh winter days alone—and some may not survive another miserable night.

What if you were forced to spend a freezing winter outdoors on a heavy chain or in a cramped pen filled with garbage and your own waste—shivering, miserable, and denied any measure of comfort, safety, and love?

Every dog deserves a roof over their head, a warm bed, and a loving family—but countless dogs are deprived of these essentials. This month’s deep freeze has left neglected “backyard dogs” struggling to survive freezing rain, wind, and snow with little—if anything—to protect them from the elements. Some may not make it through the bone-chilling nights yet to come.

Every day this winter, PETA fieldworkers are finding dogs who are chained to trees, cinderblocks, or even junked vehicles. Most have nothing but an overturned barrel or a flimsy plastic box for “shelter”—if they have anything at all.

With your help, our team can build sturdy, insulated shelters with thick rubber flooring to provide dogs with some protection from the extreme winter cold. Your gift can also replace heavy chains with lightweight tie-outs, provide spay/neuter surgeries and other veterinary care, and feed dogs whose bowls might otherwise stay empty.
